Why are we so blind? Why do millions make the choice each day to focus on this world rather than on the One who can give them more than this world? Are we all willing to remain in the rut that we are in from day to day instead of making the choice to climb out of that rut? Possibly, our thinking is not right.
We just cannot seem to wholeheartedly let go of this world. It has such a grip on us. We know that all this is just temporary; but, we love all this momentary junk that never satisfies us or gives us contentment. Each morning we wake up thinking of our selfish selves. We sit down to breakfast, and during the time we are eating, we are thinking about all that we have to do during the day.
We have to face the day at work with all of its pressure. We put a smile on our face the minute we walk out the front door and work on retaining it until the end of the day. We know we will be among those we work with and with friends and family members throughout the day. So, we just have to keep that smile on our face for them even though there will be times we do not want to.
Why can’t we just let go and stop trying to be something that we are not? We are all such fakes. We all are a bunch of nothings trying to be a bunch of somethings? We have such a desire to be a cut-above the rest.
We know we are a mess in so many ways; yet, we keep putting on that noble front; trying to act like some intelligent, loving, tremendous person; when, actually, we are one “big joke”. We are so undone; yet, we walk out the front door in the morning with the hope that everyone will like us and think we are a fabulous person. Throughout the day, we work on keeping that agreeable image because we sure do not want people to know that we are just one “big joke”.
The Bible describes us all very well: “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.” Revelation 3:15-19
“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes.” Romans 3:10-18
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” II Timothy 3:1-5
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way…” Isaiah 53:6
The reason we are such a “big joke” is because we cannot get it through our heads that we must stay attached to the Vine. Never will we be able to do what is right; think what is right; speak what is right and manage our lives in the way that the Lord wants us to because we are rotten through and through. There is nothing that is virtuous about any of us. We are not a cut-above the rest. Jesus is our only hope. We must remain connected to Him, if we wish to become more and more like Him. He loves us and will make the necessary changes in all of us if we stay connected to Him.
We watch the news on TV or read about all the rot that is happening in this world in the newspaper or in some magazine, and it makes us so down in the dumps. We just cannot figure out why people are so dim-witted in their thinking and do such brainless stuff. They can’t be any different because the devil has them by the throat. He is slowly choking the life out of the majority in this world, and they are so controlled by him that they cannot see it.
They have never experienced the happiness of being attached to the Vine. Have you taken the time to tell someone, today, that they need to be attached to the Vine? If not, why haven’t you? Are you asking the Lord, daily, to bring someone by you so you can tell them how marvelous your friend, Jesus, is?
Thousands are going to be destroyed at the brightness of our Lord’s coming because they have never taken the time to know Him. They have never had a wish to have more than this life. They have never stopped to think that this may be the only life for them if they do not make an entire change in the direction they are going. They do not know that the path they are walking on leads to eternal death.
We do not have to do anything “big”; but we all can do “something” to help others to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Look at me, for instance. I am a grandma and a great-grandma. I am 77 years old, and in fairly good health. I don’t know everything regarding the Scriptures; but, I do know that if I share the love of Jesus with people, He will help me to, and He will give me more light to share with others in the future. I may not even know the Bible as well as some of you. But, I love the Lord and want others to love Him, too. If Jesus can use ignorant fishermen to spread His word, he can use us. He can give us the power and wisdom to do it. Not that I think you are ignorant, friend; but, you know what I mean.
If you have a talent in baking bread, take a fresh loaf over to your neighbors, and tell them that Jesus loves them. If you can run an errand for someone, do it. Pick some flowers out of your yard and take them to a neighbor or vegetables from your garden, if you have one. Go for a walk with your neighbor. Take cookies to work. Invite people to your church. If you know someone in your neighborhood that lives alone, go over and spend a hour with that person. Go window shopping with a neighbor, and stop for lunch in a nice little place.
The world situation is going to get much worse and the people are going to become meaner and crueler. We must be a light in our neighborhood. I remember a pastor, that I knew years ago, saying during his sermon that as time goes on people are going to become crueler, therefore, we must become sweeter and more loving to them.
The masses do not know the secret of true happiness. We do; but, they do not. We have learned that without Jesus we can do nothing. We must stay attached to the Vine. We must receive that precious nourishment that comes to us from reading His word with prayer. Those of us that love the Lord are a small group compared to all those that are walking with the devil. They do not know that there are only two ways to go, Jesus or Satan. They are in a rut and cannot seem to climb out of that rut. If we each can do “something” to help those poor souls, let’s do it. With the lord’s help we can do it. It does not have to be anything “big”.
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.” John 15:1-8
