Give Up Pride
“When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.” Proverbs 11:2
“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” James 4:6
“A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.” Proverbs 29:23
“Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.” I Peter 5:5
We all have a problem with pride. It is hard to keep in mind that we have nothing to be proud of because everything that we have comes from the Lord.
“Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.” Psalm 138:6
“And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.” Mark 7:20-23
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” I John 2:15-17
“These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” Proverbs 6:16-19
The only reason that we were able to wake up this morning and enjoy this day is because our Lord has so graciously given us another day. We leave our nice warm bed and nice house and go to work and never stop to thank Him for all the wonderful blessings. Without Him providing for us, we would have nothing.
“The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low.” Isaiah 2:11, 12
“An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.” Proverbs 21:4
“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18
”Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.” Proverbs 16:5
There is no reason for anyone to be proud. Jesus is the one that has opened all the right doors for us. Our healthy bodies and bright minds were given to us to succeed in life and to be happy. The Lord created us with such love. He wants us to do well in this life. But, how nice it would be if everyone realized that there healthy bodies and bright minds were a gift from Jesus. A gift that we, also, can use to help others to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Let us ask Jesus to help us not to be proud. When the end of the day comes, let us thank Him for giving us such a good day. We were able to provide for ourselves and our families during that day because He gave us a good mind and a healthy body. “…for without me ye can do nothing.” John 15:5
“He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.” Proverbs 28:25
“Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken.” Jeremiah 13:15
“For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.” Malachi 4:1
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” II Timothy 3:1-5
