We Must Be Baptized
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the son, and of the Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen” Matthew 28:19, 20
“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” Mark 16:16
“Jesus answered, verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” John 3:5
Make that choice today to surrender you life totally to Jesus and be baptized. You will be so happy that you did.
“There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” Ephesians 4:4-6
“Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now; for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him. And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water; and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him; And lo a voice from heaven saying, this is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:13-17
“And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there; and they came, and were baptized.” John 3:23
Our Father and the angels like it when we have decided to change our way of living. We want to surrender our lives to Jesus and start walking with Him. We have learned to love and appreciate so much the love and compassion He has shown us.
We desire to let go of the past life and all its ways. We are weary of this world and its pleasures. We are tired of living the way that we are living, and we want to put Jesus Christ first in our lives. We enjoy reading His word and love having Him dwell in us through the Holy Spirit.
Now we have reached the point that we want to be baptized. We want to come up out of the water a new person in Jesus Christ. We have let the world, our heavenly Father and the angels know that we want to walk with Jesus from now on. We want to experience the joy of being baptized in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost.
We have the assurance that Jesus will give us the power to live in the way that He wants us to. He won the victory at the cross.
“And it came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him.” Mark 1:9, 10
“And as they went on their way, they came unto certain water; and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still; and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing.”Acts 8:36-39
“Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.” Colossians 2:12
Make that choice today to stand up for Jesus. This world can never make us content. It is coming to a quick close. Jesus Christ is our blessed hope.
“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death; that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection; knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.” Romans 6:3-6
“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized; and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” Acts 2:38, 41, 42
“For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one spirit.” I Corinthians 12:13
“And now why tarriest thou? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” Acts 22:16
Biblical baptism takes much water. Jesus “went into” and “came up” out of the water. He was fully immersed. Both Philip and the eunuch entered the water. Philip baptized the eunuch by immersion. We are buried with Christ through baptism. Baptism is a symbol of the resurrection; it represents death and burial of the old life and emergence to a new life in Jesus. We have reached the point that we love the Lord so much that we want to completely bury that old way that we were living under the water and come up out of the water having the wish to walk with Jesus in the direction and ways that He wants us to walk, every day. The delight of putting Him first in our lives is far beyond anything that this world has to offer.
