Last Act Of The Drama

The sign of obedience is the observance of the Sabbath of the fourth commandment.  If men keep the fourth commandment, they will keep all the rest.  It was no human voice that spoke to Moses, giving him the Sabbath as a sign.  “The Lord spake unto Moses saying, Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you.  Ye shall keep the Sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.” Exodus 31:13, 14

The Lord of heaven permits the world to choose whom they will have as ruler.  Let all read carefully the thirteenth chapter of Revelation, for it concerns every human agent, great and small.  Every human being must take sides, either for the true and living God, who has given to the world the memorial of Creation in the seventh-day Sabbath, or for a false sabbath, instituted by men who have exalted themselves above all that is called God or that is worshiped, who have taken upon themselves the attributes of Satan, in opressing the loyal and true who keep the commandments of God.  This persecuting power will compel the worship of the beast by insisting on the observance of the sabbath he has instituted.  Thus he blasphemes God, sitting “in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” II Thessalonians 2:4

The substitution of the false for the true is the last act in the drama.  When this substitution becomes universal, God will reveal Himself.  When the laws of men are exalted above the laws of God, when the powers of this earth try to force men to keep the first day of the week, know that the time has come for God to work.  He will arise in His majesty, and will shake terribly the earth.  He will come out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the world for their iniquity.  The earth shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.

E. G. White, Maranatha, p. 262

The seal of God’s law is found in the fourth commandment.  This only, of all the ten, brings to view both the name and the title of the Lawgiver.  It declares Him to be the Creator of the heavens and the earth, and thus shows His claim to reverence and worship above all others.  Aside from this precept, there is nothing in the Decalogue to show by whose authority the law is given.  When the Sabbath was changed by the papal power, the seal was taken from the law.  The disciples of Jesus are called upon to restore it by exalting the Sabbath of fourth commandment to its rightful position as the Creator’s memorial and the sign of His authority.

E. G. White, The Great Controversy, p. 452

The third angel’s message has been sent forth to the world, warning men against receiving the mark of the beast or of his image in their foreheads or in their hands.  To receive this mark means to come to the same decision as the beast has done, and to advocate the same ideas, in direct opposition to the Word of God.  Of all who receive this mark, God says, “The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb.” Revelation 14:10

If the light of truth has been presented to you, revealing the Sabbath of the fourth commandment, and showing that there is no foundation in the Word of God for Sunday observance, and yet you still cling to the false sabbath, refusing to keep holy the Sabbath which God calls “My holy day,” you receive the mark of the beast.  When does this take place?  When you obey the decree that commands you to cease from labor on Sunday and worship God, while you know that there is not a word in the Bible showing Sunday to be other than a common working day, you consent to receive the mark of the beast, and refuse the seal of God.

E. G. White, The SDA Bible Commentary, vol. 7, pp. 979, 980

If you receive this mark in our foreheads or in our hands, the judgments pronounced against the disobedient must fall upon us.  But the seal of the living God is placed upon those who conscientiously keep the Sabbath of the Lord.

E. G. White, The Review And Herald, July 13, 1897

The fourth commandment, which Rome has endeavored to set aside, is the only precept of the Decalogue that points to God as the Creator of the heavens and the earth, and thus distinguishes the true God from all false gods.  The Sabbath was instituted to commemorate the work of creation, and thus to direct the minds of men to the true and living God.  The fact of His creative power is cited throughout the Scriptures as proof that the God of Israel is superior to heathen deities…

That institution which points to God as the Creator is a sign of His rightful authority over the beings He had made.
